Every pregnant woman should know about Group B Strep. If you are pregnant and have not heard
of it, please ask your doctor. If you are pregnant, you could be at risk!
Group B Strep is the leading infectious killer of newborns. Group B Strep bacteria is a natural
occuring bacteria that exists in the intestinal tract of approximately 30% of the population. Group B Strep colonization is
usually not a problem for healthy adults, but babies who may ingest the bacteria during labour and delivery can become very
ill, resulting in potential long term permanent disabilities or death.
